Fortuna Düsseldorf hits record with 17,000 season tickets for 3. Liga 2026/27
Fortuna Düsseldorf has already sold 17,000 season tickets in the first three sales phases – a new high for a third‑division club. The historic side launched the first phase on June 17 for existing annual ticket holders and opened the second round on June 25 for new seat reservations at the Merkur Spiel‑Arena.
What sparked the surge?
The hype began right after the drop from the 2. Bundesliga. Despite (or perhaps because of) the painful relegation, demand for season tickets rose as fans wanted to guarantee their support. In the first phase on June 17, annual ticket owners could keep their seats, while the second phase on June 25 allowed new seat reservations. From July 6 to July 9, all club members could buy a season ticket, and on July 9 at 10 a.m. the open sale for non‑members started.
How does this affect membership numbers?
According to the Rheinische Post, the relegation actually increased membership: currently 36,000 fans are registered with Fortuna Düsseldorf. More people are joining the club than leaving it – a clear sign of strong fan loyalty. Chairman Alexander Jobst stressed that the 17,000 season tickets provide the necessary backing for the upcoming campaign.
How does it compare historically?
In the 2008/09 season, when Fortuna last played in the 3. Liga, the average attendance was 14,868 per match. With the already sold 17,000 season tickets, that figure will be comfortably surpassed, setting a new spectator record. The club hopes the larger crowd in the arena will further motivate the squad.
What comes next?
The 3. Liga schedule was released on July 8, giving fans the chance to plan their visits. Additionally, the Dead Cats and Axel Bellinghausen promoted the tickets during the home concerts on July 3 and 4. Ticket sales could climb further if the open sale on July 9 proves successful. Fortuna Düsseldorf looks ahead to the new season with confidence, buoyed by massive interest in season tickets.
